Mrs. Sallie K. Shirey was born November
20th, 1874, and departed this
life on the evening of May 30th, 1912,
being 37 years, 6 months and 10 days
old. She was the daughter of Mr and
Mrs. Elijah Carten, both of whom preceded
her to the spirit land. She was
the mother of nine children, six of
whom are living.
She joined the Baptist chnrch in
early life and remained a faithful
member until death.
She was a kind wife and a loving
mother. She was a general favorite
among all who had the pleasure of
knowing her. Her death was yery
sadden and unexpected, she being sick
only a short while, and we are sadly
grieved by her death. No longer can
we hear her soft and welcome footsteps
around our family fireside. She
has left a vacant chair in our home
and family circle, a stillness that is almost
unbearable; but amid all there
still remains the sweet assurance that
my dear wife has merely passed from
this life into the great beyond to be
forever with the blessed Savior.
