Dream ol the Drummer.
One night a drummer dreamed a
dream
And dreaming, dreamed he died,
And straightway to the Pearly Gate,
His sin-stained spirit hied.
And there before the saints he stcod
With downcast head and low,
"My record's pretty rank,'' he said,
"I guess I'm bound below.
"I've smoked a lot and drank a lot,
Confess it all, I must,
And flirted too, and then besides,
Great Heaven, how I've cussed.,'
(
| The good St. Peter looked at dim
i Willi kindly smiliDg eyes,
But shook his head, "Don't ask," he
said
j "A mansion in the skies."
j "But let me ask some questions, sir:
"Are you a traveling man?"
The sinner bowed and in this strain
The aged saint began:
""Xou've gotten up at 4 a. m.
And chased the train a mile,
Amid the tram crew's gibes and jeers
A-sounding all the while.
"And then 3Tou found, as usual,
You've chased the wrong train. Once
again
The time card's played its trick,
And yours goes out at G.
"You've taken some gay merchant out,
And spent a ten or more,
And then he calmly says he'd bought
His goods the day before.
"You've spent your life at bad hotels, ,
And eaten still worse meals,
With oleo' and waiter girls
All run down at the heels.
i
"You've had your letters sent astray,
Your trunks have wandered too,
With porters, clerks and baggagemen
You're in a constant scew.
"And once a month you see your wife,
Now tell me, is it so?"
"It is," replied the drummer,
As he took his hat to go.
"Ah, well," said good St. Peter,
As he opened the portal wide,
"I'm very glad to meet you, sir,
Just kindly step inside.
"We'll try and make you happy here,
We'll do the best we can
You've served your time in Hades,
For you've been a traveli g man."

Senator Tillman.
The scars of a veteran are the noblest
insignia of honor. Senator Tillman
of South Carolina was never a
greater figure in American eyes than
in these days of his ill-health.
Dot no amount of physical suffering
can break a spirit as indomitable as
that of any man who ever lived. The
fearlessness, the intellectual power,
the invincible will of Senator Tillman
are what they have always been. He
is a candidate for another term in the
senate. It should be granted him.
We are sure his constituents feel, as
the coudtry does, about the matter.

train and soul a man of the people,
beginning against the handicap of
great odds, he fought his way to the
foremost rank of orators, legislators,
and parlimentarians by sheer genius
and force of character. His great personality
has subdued the animosities
of an earlier time. Eighteen yeairs in
the senate have made him understood,
not only by the state of South Carolii

United States recognizes in Benjamin
