ton County.
j In response to the call of the Presif
dent of the County R. L. C. AssociaItion
let us every one put aside all opposing
pleasures and duties on May 30
and devote this one day to the work
of our association. We have a proud
record behind us and a grander future
before us. Congress is at last breaking
down every barrier to our fullest
development and we will be able to do
better for ourselves and the service in
the future than we have ever been
able to do in the past.
Let every member appoint himself a
committee ot one to see or correspond
^ with as many as possible of the carriers
who are yet out of the fold and do his
utmost to get time to come in. The
representitivc of the P. O. Depart'
ment at Florence last year said in

ble he had wi h carriers was with |
those who did not toelorg to the Asso- i
ciation. Thi3 means of coarse that j
those carriers who are wide awake to i
the host interests of the service and to
the betterment of their condition are
members of the Association and the
h others are indifferent or satisfied to be
& dragged along behind and to profit by
^khe labors of their fellow carriers.
Brother carriers if yon belong to the
letter class it is high time you were
i getting out of that bunch and awaken
ing to a sense of your dnty and your
? opportunity. \
No carrier can refute the argument
that the association has bettered his
condition financially and otherwise
therefore he is in honor bound to fall
t in l|ne end help us by putting his
shoulder to the wheel.

what we can do. I am going
I to Lexington expecting to shake the
hand of every carrier in the County.
Don't disappoint me. I want to see
B yon and talk with and help to enthuse
K jon in our great work.

County will meet in its required
(annual Convention at Lexington, S.
O. on Thursday, May 20 at 11 a. m.
We hope to see every Carrier present
at this meeting and that all those
who have not yet joined us will do so
without farther delay. The Association
is at last coming into its own and
must be credited with much favorable
legislation at thi9 sessiou of Congress.
Every carrier who stays out is work
ing^against hi9 own interests. Come in
Know and help ns to pall forward instead
of dragging1 along.

Jacob B. Jeter
Behind the Bars.
Jacob B. Jeter, a white man, was
lodged in tho lexinton jail on Sunday
by Sheriff Sim J, Miller, with the
charge of assault and battery with
intent to kill resting against liim. On
the 24th of Eebruary, this year, i t is
alleged that Jeter attempted to shoot
Chief of Police, P. L. Redmond, of
Swansea, W. L. K. Johnson and H. K.
Hooker when they went to arrest him,
using a repeating rifie. Two shots
were fired, both going wild of their
mark, and it is said that had the rifie
had more than two balls in it the chief
would undoubtedly have been killed.

from serious bodily harm, Jeter was
shot in the less. His wounds tfere so
serious that it was necessary to send
h m to Knowlton's hospital in Columbia
for treatment. A few days ago Jeter
asked permission to take a little
exercise on the streets, and upon being
refused, slipped away on Thursday,
went to the depot and boarded a train
for Salley. At Salley he hired a borse
and buggy and drove to the home of
his brother-in-law about six miles from
Neeses, in Orangeburg county.
Sheriff Miller, who had in his possession
a warrant for Jeter,was notified
on Friday and in less than two days he
had his man spotted. On Saturday
night Mr. Miller went to Swansea and
on Sunday morning secured an auto- 1
mobile and went to within a half mile
of the house where Jeter was stopping.
Here he tpok to the woods afoot and
eased his way to the house. It is said
that the brave officer was upon Jeter
and had effected his arrest before he
knew what happened. He was brought
to Lexington and lodged in jail to
await trial at the June term of Cofcrt.
Jeter it is understood, was planning
to make his escape to Savannah.
Jeter was one of the first men to receive
a pardon from Governor Blease,
he having been in the penitentiary
serving a life santence for killing a
a man on uie streets ux vmua actciat
years ago. \

' HOW WEAK WOMEN
May Be Made Strong at Small
Expense and No Risk
There are hundreds of women in
this vicinity, weak, thin, run-down,
tired out and nervous. Such women
nppd Vino! lust as much as did Mrs.
Jane Pepper, of 2307 Howard street,
San Francisco, Cal., who says:
'"I have used Vinol for some time
with particularly gratifying results. I
was run down, weak and debilitated,
and my appetite was gone. After taking
several bottles of Vinol I found
my condition greatly improved, and
do not hesitate to recommend Vinol
to anyone similarly affected."
Vinol is not a secret nostrum, but
,a delicious cod liver and iron tonic
without oil, which will create an appetite,
tone tip the digestive organs,
make pure blood and create strength.
Try a bottle of Vinol with the understanding
that your money will be
returned if it does not help you.
