Pelion High School
Closes Successful Year
Special to The Dispatch.
Poiinn Anril 29.?The closing exer
cises of the Pelion school were held
in the school building April 19, beginning
at 8 o'clock p. m. This was one
of the mpst enjoyable entertainments
of its kind ever witnessed in this section.
The children and older pupils
all did their parts well, showing the
careful training of their teacher, Mr.
Holly L. Harman, assisted by Mrs. J.
C. Port.
A most-interesting feature of the occasion,
and one that will not soon be
forgotten, was the address of Prof. S.
J. Derrick, of Newberry College.
Prof. Derrick addressed bis remarks
-chiefly to the pupils and young people
generally, pointing oat to them
-the necessity of following after truth,
honesty, honor, good cheer and industry,
as the great factors in the makeup
of character. Thi9 address was
listened to with rapt attention by all j
present, and at the close, Prof. Der- \
' rick was presented with two bouquets
offl owers by little Misses Bertha Ashworth
and Jimmie Fort.

It is understood that the county will

has not paid off in three months, due

not been perfected for the loan of $25,000
