Injured !h Runaway. '
Mr. H. S. Roten, of Irmo, met with
a painful accident on Sunday afternoon
while driving between the depot
and Lexington. His horse became
' frightened at the approach of an automobile,
turned the buggy over and
threw Mr. Roten out. While under
the buggy the horse kicked Mr. Ro ten
on the right thigh. The injured man
fwas carried to the home of Coroner B.
D. Clarke, where he was attended by
Dr. J. J. Wingard, later being carried
to the home of Connty Auditor Dent.
Fortunately, no bone9 were broken.

Elias J. Caughman Dead.
Mr. EliasJ. Caughman, a former
resident of Lexington, died in a local
hospital in Columbia at an early hour
y esterday morning of paralysis which
seized him on Sunday night, aged 78
years. His remains will be brought

Lutheran church at 11 o'clock, after
which the body will be laid to rest in
the cemetery.
He i9 survived by one brother, Mr.
Wade Caughman, two sisters, Mr9. A.
M. Leaphart and Mrs. W. H. Hendrix,
and two daughters, Mrs. William
Stork and Miss Jodie Caughman.
