George Wallace Zeigler, a far of the Lower Fork section of Oreburg county, his home being about or turee miles from Orangeburg, >nd the Edisto river, was found 1 in a public road Wednesday night >nd the town of Cordoya with a shot wound in his side. Zeigler was riding along ^Tin his buggy alone. He had a double H^harrel shot gun in the buggy and also F>a dog. The roadway was very rough i and it was supposed that the gun fell out and came in contact with the ^Lwheels, discharging it. The wound Bvvas inflicted in the side of Mr. Zeigler. W Paul L Hutto is No More A Paul E. Kutto, ex-member cf the ^^ouse from Lexington county and one the best men in the lower section H>f tlie county, died at his home in ^ Swansea on Monday following a long Wand painful illness. Mr. Hutto is surA vived by his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Hutto of Leesville andsevKeral brothers and sisters. * His remains were bnned at Swanyesterday afternoon. Barn Burned This Morning; Beavy Loss. Eighteen head of cattle, some of which were most valuable, perished in a fire which destroyed the large barn and stables of Mrs. Simon P. Wingard at an early hour this morning. In ad- I dition two buggies, two wagons, all of the harness, bridles, farming imple- | ments and food were totally destroyed, 1 entailing a loss estimated at about $2,500 with no insurance. How the fire orginated will possibly never be known, although many theories have been advanced. Wingard as she went into the kitch- | en to start fire in the stove, it was a largo blaze in the lower part of the barn. By the heroic efforts of Mrs. Sndella Oswald and her children, the horses were saved. Most of the cattle burned were fancy milch cows, and the loss is all the more regretable. This is the second barn to born down for the family., About eighteen years ago, on a Sunday morning about 11 o'clock the other fire occurred, the mystery surrounding tbat fire having never been solved. Miss Taylor Injured In Accident. Miss Lnla Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerod Taylor, of near Gilbert, ; was painfully injured in aa automobile accident on Sunday afternoon while ! outriding with Mr. E. Sloan Crout and his younger brother. The party, i it seems, met a buggy and Mr. Crcut stopped his machine, leaving it in lowgear. While he was talking to the I friends in the bnggv, Miss Taylor and | the younger Mr. Croot in a joking way , said that they were going ro stare tne car off. Both got out in front of tfce machine and the young man gave the crank a turn. The car, to their suri prise, started off. Both were knocked down, the machine passing over Miss Taylor, breaking her collar-bone in two places and otherwise bruising her. The young man was uninjured. Miss Taylor was carried to her home, where she was attended by Dr. E. P. Derrick of Lexington. The car ran off without a driver for a long distance, finally running into a tree, where it stopped. The machine was badly damaged. New Bank Will Open Next Monday It is porbable that the new bank? the Bank of Western Carolina?will epen for business on next Monday morning with Mr. R. D. Smith in charge. President H. M. Dibble, of Aiken, spent yesterday in Lexington perfecting arrangements for the opening.
