The Lexington Caunty Union held its first quarterly meeting with Chapin Local on Saturday, March 9tb. Deapite the bad roads and rain there was afairly/good attendance, seven locals being represented. The subject, "How can we .best eneonrage oar farmers to grow better stock?" was carried over until the tinfext regular meeting owing to the absence of the speaker assigned. The next regular mee ing will be held at Lexington on the second Saturday in July, at which time some experts wttl be on hand to talk on the subject of the cattle tick. The good ladies of Chapin local turned out with a picnic spread, which was much enjoyed and appreciated. 0. W. Smith, Chapin, Mch. 11. Reporter. Harry Goodwin Injured. Harry Goodwin, son of Mr. "Doc" Goodwin, of Gaston and a flagman on fcbe Seaboard, was seriously injured in the railroad yards at Cheraw on Friday while uncoupling cars. The Rev. Dr. A. G. Voight, of the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Columbia, has accepted the invitation to preach the baccalaureate sermon upon the occasion of the commencement exercises of the Palmetto Collegiate Institute on - Sunday, May 19. The other speakers have not been selected yet. The exercises this year will be held in the handsome new school building, which will be turned over by the contractors within the next few weeks. The 15 contribution was accompanied by the following letter, addressed to Secre:ary MacVeagh: "When I was discharged from the irmy in 1865 I had two saddle blankits; one old and one I had picked up.
