Young Negro Boy
Held For Murder.
Ernest Thompson, a negro boy of
about 14 years of age, was placed in
jail Thursday night with the charge of
murder resting against him, it being
alleged that he killed another negro
boy, Chestine Young, at Irmo on
Wednesday afternoon. The trouble
occurred at Pleasant Spring school
house during the recess hour.
According to the story told by
Thompson, the boy charged with the I
killing, Young had been picking a fuss
with his (Thompson's) younger brother,
and when the older Thompson
asked Yonng to desist, Young turned
upon Ernest Thompson with a drawn |
knife. Ernest says he struck Young
over the head with a baseball bat in
an effort to keep him off, not having
the least intention of Wiling him.
! Yonng died a few minutes later, it
is said, and the boy was committed to
jail by Magistrate Lorick of Irmo.
Thompson is perhaps the youngest
? mi .1. mnrrlop in
person ever cuaigen wim .
this county, certainly the youngest in
a number of years.
