Each one of us must talk and work and, most of all, subscribe liberally. Do you want the college? Will you do it? Lexington is the logical place for the location of a Lutheran female college for several reasons, the principal one being that it is nearer the centre of Lutheranism than any other point in South Carolina. It has been said on good authority that there are between forty and fifty Lutheran churches within a radius of twelve miles of Lexington. Can any other place say this? Lexington, itself, is putting forth every effert to secure the college, but it needs the help and co-operation of the entire county to succeed; and to this end, the committee in charge of the subscriptions will ask some one in each community to solicit subscriptions. But we do not want the people to wait for some one to come to' see them, but get out and go to work for yourselyes?come to see the members of the committee, or in any other way " do what you can to advance the cause; / it is to be your college as well as ours. The place of location will be decided on March 5, and now is the time to work. , Besides the educational advantages given us, look for one moment at the proposition from a business standpoint: It will build up the town and surrounding country, and tt.reby increase the valuation of property, making each one's home more valuable diiu Hiuic uuairauic UJLI a^uvuuu ui iuv OV added advantages. When Judge Prince sounded the "roster" on Monday morning not a case could be brought to trial, notwithstanding the face that 36 jurors had been summoned to appear. Accordingly the clerk of court was ordered to pay the jurors and dismiss them from further attendance upon the court. Judge Prince then adjourned court until next Monday, giving the lawyers an opportunity to re-arrange the "roster." "When I come back next Monday," said the court, "and find the lawyers withont anything to do, I will adjourn the court out of pure disgust," concluded the Judge. Only two cases were disposed of fast week. Fred Collins, a negro, wa9 awarded $100 against the Southern Railway, as has already been reported in'these colnmns. In the case of Wade H. Spires against L. W. Gardner, a suit to recover a large tract of land, which consumed three days, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the'plaintiff. This is a case without a parallel in the court annals of this State, according to the statement of local attorneys. Mr. Gardner has been in possession'of the land since 1900, having purchased the same from Mr. E. M. Livingston, of North, who had purchased the land from his fatheT-inr law's estate. Claiming that he was the rightful owner of the property; that he had a lease and other papers to the property, TrrV?;nVi Vmd hppn dpstrnvpd in a flood while he was a resident of Georgia several years ago, Spires, in 1010, entered suit to recover the lard together with damages. The case wa3 first tried during the November term, last year, but the jury failed to reach a verdict. A motion for a new trial will be heard by Judge Prince next week. T. W. Wood & Sons.
