Troutmm, a farmer living some miles from Statesville, N. C., was crushed to death beneath a bale of cotton. Troiitman and his son were hauling cotton from a gin and when within a half mile of home a bale on which he was sitting toppled from the wagon and he was caught beneath it. Death was instantaneous. In its fall the body struck a man at a cigar stand, breaking both his arms. John Ferguson, aged 79, was killed by a Seaboard passenger train near Rock Hill, being run over while walking on the track.
