A Grandmother at Thirty.
A grandmother of two children at
the age of two and three, at 30 years,
is the record of Mrs. E. W. Bender, of
Atlanta. : It is claimed that Mrs. Bender
is the youngest grandmother on
record and the case is one of the most
remarkable outside of tropical conntries.
Mrs Bender, who is 31 years old,
was born in 1SS0 in South Carolina.
She was married to E. W. Moore, at
Columbia, S. C., in 18S2. She was only
13 years and three months old when
her first chiid was born. This child,
a daughter, was married in 1909 to
Edward Sinclair, and in January, 1910,
gave birth to twin9, the mother being
barely 16 ana the grandmother not
yet 30.
In January of this year Mrs. Bender's
daughter gave birth to another
child, the third of the grandchildren.
Mr. Moore died when Mrs. Sinclair
was an infant. Later his widow married
E. W. Bender and that union has
been blessed by several children.
Physicians claim it is rare in this part
of the world that a woman becomes a
grandmother even in the early thirties.

Candy Prices Soar
Willi Sugar.
St. Louis, Mo., Sepfc 14.?Where the
juvenile customer of a candy shop
had been accustomed to receive 10
sticks of candy for a nickle, now he
will get but eight, all because of the
2-cent jump in the price of sugar recently
while the candy market has
followed the sugar markef upward, it
has not advanced so fast nor done so
far, according to a local manufacturer
of sweets.

Kaufmann Drug Co,
. Cotton Seed Too Low.
Tj the Farmers' Unions, Comity and
Local:
In our work f )t the price of cotton
we have overlooked the ruinous prices
that have been offered for cotton seed.
At prices that have prevailed we
shonld use thera fcr fertilizer rather
than sell. I have been informed, and
believe it to be reliable, that the market
for cotton seed oil and by products,
and the price of meal, would warrant
$28 to $30 per tou for seed.
Take care of your seed. Pick and
gin your cotton dry. Store the seed
in small piles, well protected from the
weather, and do not sell any seed till
*the market advances considerably.
E. W. Dabbs,
President South Carolina State Farmers'
Union.

Our attention has been called to the
fact that there is a- rumor in circulation
in some sections of the county,
and in adjoining counties, to the effect,
that the Orangeburg County Fair
has been postponed until another year.
We wish to correct this report by stating
that the directors of the Fair Association
have bought 22 acres of land
within the corporate limits of the
city, have given out jontracis for the
erection of suitable buildings, for half
mile race track, and barns, stables,
etc. They have, also, given oat contract
for the printing of a premium
list, containing something like 800
premiums for exhibits, covering ail
departments of an Agricultural and
Mechanical Fair.
The dates of the fair will be from
November 14th to 16th for the white
people, and the 17th and 18th for the
colored people.
With the exception of the boys' corn
club, and the girls' tomato club, the
premium list is open for competition
for Orangeburg, and all the adjoining
counties, namely: Aiken, Bamberg,
Berkeley, Calhoun, Dorchester, and
Lexington. The premium lists, when
ready, will be distributed; and any
person wishing one, can have it mailed
t j them by sending in their application.
There is still some stock for sale at
$10 per snare, and application for
same can be made to either of the undersigned.
