Camden, July 3.?McRay Kirkland
of We9t Wateree Section was killed
by his scyi, Willie Kirkland, early this
morning. It seems that there was
son e family trouble and young Kirkland
was protecting his mother. McKay
Kirkland, it is said, attacked iris
wife last night and forced her to leave
the house and stay outdoors all night.
She sought refuge at the house of a
neighbor early this morning. Just after
daybreak Kirkland drove over the
neighbor's house and called them out.
He grabbed his wife and threw her into
the buggy, drew a big knife and de
fied anybody to hinder him in his actions.
Ab^ut this time Willie Kirkland

came up and asked his father to release
his mother. When his father refused
and threatened him, he sent for
his pistol and again demanded his father
to release her. Again his father
refused. Then Willie shot him once
in the head, killing him instantly. The
fir9t time he pulled the trigger the pistol
snapped. Cocking it again, he
took careful aim and fired the fatal
shot.
McRay Kirkland had a bad reputation
and was considered a dangerous
man, while his son is a very quiet
young man and is well thought of in
his section of the county. It did not
appear that McRay Kirkland was intoxicated,
but was almost insane with
anger.
Willie Kirkland lias not been arresti
ed, but is said to be on way to give up. I

Mail Carrier Shot Down
Dawson, Ga., July 3.?The bulletriddled
body and wagon of Linnie
Maury, a rural mail carrier of Edison,
who has been missing since Saturday,
have been fouud in a swamp several
miles oat of town and just off the public
road. With the body was found a

suicide.
Maury was evidently driving along
the public road unsuspicious of danger.
The wagon bottom was bloodstained.
The mail pouch was found
near the body. It is not known whether
it had been tampered with.
Poshes are scouring the county with
track dogs in an effort to capture the
slayer of the carrier. Maury went out
on his route Saturday morning as
usual. When he failed to return a
search was instituted. The dead man
is a member of a prominent family
and is survived by his widow and one
child.
