One of the most delightful occasions of the season was a party given by Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Addy at their home in Gilbert on the evening of June 14. I The party was given in honor of the eighteenth birthday of their daughter, Miss Emmons. The rooms and verandas were tastily decorated with vines, and lighted with lanterns. The color schemes were Diac? ana yenow. Contests and games were enjo3ed until 11 o'clock, when ail retired to the dining-room where refreshments were seryed. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Keisler, Mr. and Mrs. K. B. Price, Prof, and Mr9. Pierce Etheredge, Mr. and Mrs. J. I. To the Editor of The Dispat:h: June in all her beauty and loveliness is here with her pretty brides and sweet graduates. Crops are growing and doing well, bat need rain very badly. Goodwin paid the c-ily a brief but pleasant visit recently and of course called on his best girl. Mrs. G. A. Goodwin, who has been spending some time with loved ores in B.'ackville, has returned to the delight of her devoted "hubby." Vegetables hereabouts are exceedingly scarce owing to the dry weath er. Road Inspector George W. Pound visited the capitol of the county last week in attendance upon court as a juror. Two of the small children of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Goodwin have been sick with fever, but at this wntiug are somewhat better. The health of the devoted and happy Felix family is excelled. Col. Paul J. Kneece, under the supervision of our jovial, genial friend, H. W. Kneeoe, has manufactured for his pleasure a boat and placed it upon the placid waters of the lake and now you may chance t > hear of t le Col. having fish frys, cat-stews, boat-sails, courtings, etc., as a passtiine. wen, go ahead, Bro. On the eve of the eleventh there appeared at the home of G. A. Goodwin one John Earle, of Brooklaud, with Miss Mary Jane Davis, who were made husband, and wife and sent on their way rejoicing that two hearts were made to beat as one. The Farmers' Mutual Telephone ComDanv ha9 let the contract to G. C. Goodwin to build a line to connect Gaston and Swansea and vicinity. The work has already begun and will be completed by August first. On June the 11th at the home of the officiating minister, W. B. Fallaw, one John B. Fallaw was united in holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Josephine, the oldest daughter of. our friend, H. W. Neese. This young couple starts out in life with the best wishes of a host of friends. May their journey be one of peace, love, joy, happiness and prosperity! We take this occasion to thank the patrons for the tokens of kindness shown the carrier No. 1, and especially our esteemed friend, C. L. Cassidy, who so generously remembered us on his birthday with a bunch of good things to eat. More of you good people follow suit. The protracted meetings at New Hope and Sandy Run will commence on the 4th and-5th Sundays in July. H. M. Failaw will do the preaching. The union meeting will be held at Sandy Run, and H. M. The railroad commission lies decided to resume the hearing 011 the standard freight rate tariff on September 5, All railroads in South Carolina are effected. Various petitions have been filed with the commission asking that the taxing rates be revised. The hearing was taken up last fall, but was postponed on account of the death of Commissioner Sullivan.
