Saturday became involved in a
quarrel, O'Neill shooting and killing

Negro Cuts a White Man.
Charles Henry McLamb, a worthy
white farmer, was assaulted and al
most fatally cut by Smitn uoykm, a !
! burly negro, in Clinton. Mr McLamb
had taken a seat in a chair on the
side of the street where Boykin was
delivering fertilizer and was ordered
by the negro to get cut cf the chair.
After a fewwordsj the negro- turned
the chair over and drew his knife and
; cut MeLamb twice, making-two long
{ wounds, penetrating to the abnormal
cavity. The wounded man was taken
i J
| to the oliice of Drs. Cooper and
j Holmes where surgical attention
| was given. It is believed the wounds
! will net prove fatal,
i The negro was promptly arrested
1 and lodged in jail to await the results
of the injuries inflicted by him before
a hearinrr is had in the case. It look
j ed at cnc lime as if summary measures
i would be resorted to by angry
| friends of the injured man, * but
| the advice of cooler heads prevailed
i and the law will very likely be allow|
ed to take its course.

Considerable excitement was cans- {
ed at Grace Advent church, three
miles from Walterboro, by an alleged
attempt on the part of L. K. Ziegler
to "kill or horse-whip" the minister ;
the Rev. J. J. Williams. The cause '
of the trouble seems that Mr. Ziegler !
was incensed because Mr. Williams ]
hid performed the ceremony when his 1
son wa9 married a month ago.
