Life is uncertain and death is as certain as life is uncertain. Life is like a beautiful flower: yesterday it was a * ? *? J i*_l i _ r i i ^ . tender DUd IUII 01 luigiib prumiaca, today it is full of bloom shedding the richness of its perfume for the pleasure and happiness of all, and tomorrow it fades, withers and dies and its dead petals are scattered by the four winds of heaven. A sacred writer once said that "in the midst of life we are in death," and we are daily reminded of the truth of this when the cold and unfeeling hand of death is laid upon the form of some loved one and claims it as its victim. In nearly every home there is some vacant chair; some loved voice is ^ ?r?A WAnun f AW f T\fOO_ IIUL-ICU CtLIU WO U11/U1U 1UJL uu<^ y. <_-o ence of one who was once the whole happiness at our home. God has seen fit to take from us our brother, Davis. He was the youngest child of Capt. and Mrs. P. H. Caughman, and was born October 31, 18&S, and departed this life March 1, 1911, making his sojourn on earth 25 years, four months and one day. To contemplate death in any form and under any circumstances is sad, but to see the form of one whose life was just bursting into the full bloom of glorious manhood, is peculiarly sad ?nd distressing, and taken so shortly after leaving home that morning well and full of life, and in one hour brought back almost gone. He told his father when he took him out of the wheel, "I'm as good as dead; go bring mama. 1" want to see her one more time.'' Father told him he would take him to her and he was brought home and lived two hours after he got there. He retained his consciousness until the end. His last words were: "Lay me down and let me die; I'm going ro die right now." I do hope that this will be a warning to the young men in this vicinity and prepare to meet him in heaven. Don't think because you have plenty in this world it will keep you here. Davis Dever was in want for anything in his life; he had what heart and tongue could wish, but it didn'^t do him any good when death came. Gcd took him; He had-a place in heaven for him?a much better place than this sinful world. The last gatnering he was at was a prayer meeting on - Sun day evening. He told bis mother that he enjoyed himself so much. H8 seldom ever missed attending preaching on Sunday. No 6ne knows how sad it is not to see him any more. Everywhere I look I think I must see him and hear him call me. We were the only two children together any more. He leayes to mourn his deaui an aged father and invalid mother; four brothers and three sisters. One sister preceded him to the Spirit land more than 40 years ago. The oldest and youngest gone to heaven, where we should preoare ourselves to meet them some day. Dtfvis was a kind hearted young man. always reiady to lend a helping hand to anyone who called on him any time. Never a word did he utter. vHe always did what his parents told him. He never went auywhere he was ashamed for his mother to know where he had been. He never was seen in bad company. One of his best friends said if Davis wasn't in heaven no other young man in this community will ever inherit the kingdom of heaven. His poor father and mother know that tney have two loving angels in heaven, which we should all feel proud of. His remains were laid to rest at his father's home in the presence of numerous relatives and ineuds, who had gathered to pay the last sad tokens of respect to the memory of the departed loved one. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is still, A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled. God in His wisdom has recalled, The boon His love had given, And though the body slumbers here, The soul is safe in heaven. Written by his lonely, heart-broken sister who always thought so much of him. Hattie. + . m 1 TH I\ ouce-ieacners Xixauim<iu.uu.
