J. H. Haithcock has sold his fine
206-acre farm to Bobt. M. Bryant of
Columbia. Mr. Haithcock paid only
$5,000 for his farm last December; he
sells now to Mr. Bryant for the neat
Lum of $6,500.
The above places were sold through
the agency of Dickert & Eargle. Mr.
Dickert says that his firm is about to
perfect a large land deal of 4,000 acres
within 20 miles of Columbia at a price
ranging somewhere around $40,000.
Definite information can not be given
out on this latter transaction yet .?

William R. Montgomery, former
president of the Hamilton bank, of
New York, was sentenced to not less
than two years and two months or
more than five years and two months
in Sing Sing for the larceny of $4,400
of the bank's money.

have not paid.
On February 1, 1911, an additional
1 per cent, will be added to those who
have not paid, making 2 per cent, for
Feb. An additional 5 per cent, will
be added on Mar. 1st, making 7 per
cent, penalty to be paid by those who
have not paid by March 1st, 1911,

moved out of town down on Lis farm.

The Farmers Union, recently organ<.
ized here, is increasing in numbers
and interest, and is accomplishing
good results.
Aunt Polly Ramick, who has been
afflicted for years and who was carried
to the hospital for the insane
two weeks ago, died last week, and
her remains were buried in Columbia,
'Gaston can now boast of having two
schools in session at the same time.
Supervisor Langford passed through
recently in the interest of good roads.
We need 'em badly down here. By
the way, Brother Louis is still driving
a mule. What has become of ttie free
automobile funds?
Prof. J. V. Smith has had bis grist
mill overhauled and remodeled and
he can now grind a bushel of corn in
from 10 to 12 m.nutes.
Mrs. Sallie G. Martin is confined to
her room at this writing by illness.
On the evening of the 19th instant
there appeared at the parsonage of W.
B. Fallaw, D. R. Craft and Miss Annie
Shumpert, who were happily unit
ed.in sacred bonds of matrimony and
sent on their way rejoicing, and glad
that they had escaped the marriage
license. Dallasis a successful farmtr,
being the eldest son of our old irieud,
T. Walter Craft, while the bride is the
youngest daughter of our esteemed
frieudand brother, Rev. D. P. Shurnpert.
May their pathway through life
strewn with flowers. Come on boys,
you know after the first of July you
will have an extra dollar to pay.
We Lave a handsome young man
who was so absorbed in the thought
of the return of his best girl and the
payment of that extra dollar, or perhaps
both, that he got in his buggy
hur ledly and attempted to drive off I
with Uncle Sam's mail before he unhitched
his horse.
We have on Route 3 a young man
who recently took a trip to see his best
(?) girl, but before reaching his destination
met another's acquaintance,
which proved to be "love at first sight,"
and the probability now is that another
marriage will ere long flake place,
thus beating out the license man.
By the way, Mr. Associate Editor,
ifjyour brother widowed editor keeps
up the speed and rate he was going
while down here with the auditor, the
first of July will not find him seeking
a license permit.
