S. Bland Conner, principal of the
Port Motte school, was hilled by a
train on Satarday. He had been to St.
Matthews to attend a teachers meeting
and returned home on train that
did not stop at Port Motte. In trying
to get off the train while it was in motion
he was horribly mangled. Mr.
Conner graduated at Wofford college
last year.
Harry A. Brunson has been elected
probate judge and master of Florence
county to succeed his father, deceased.
Mr. Brunson was superintedent of the

The newsoap'-rs say that a fire at a
private residence in Oamdeu on Thursday
broke np a game of "bridge."
Burch Henry, aged 18, fell under a
moving train at Seneca on Wednesday,
and one foot was so badly crushed
that it had to be amputated.
Henry Sudduth, a white man of
fifty, has been lodged in Greenwood
jail for the killing of a negro boy
named Will Williams, near the Edgefield
line. Sudduth claims the killing

The Columbia federation of women's
clubs have bought a lot in Columbia,
corner of Hampton and Sumter streets,
upon which they will erect a handsome
club house?lot and building to
cost $40,000.
The date of the intercollegiate contest
in oratory at Greenwood is April
28th.

brought suit for $50,000 against the
Pelzer mills for damages to the larter
in the loss of her hand 11 years ago,
when she was a child of ten years.
A negro woman named Elizabeth
Jones and her adopted child were
murdered on Thursday night on the
plantation of Mr. Wm. DeHay, ten
miles from Orangeburg, and the house
was theu set on fire and burned down.
Frank Stuart of Anderson, aged ten,
after taking the shot and wadding out;
of a shell on Friday, applied a match
to the powder and an explosion occurred.
It is likely he will never see
again.
The State Teachers association will
meet in Columoia March 25, 21 and 25.
Among the speakers will be Dr. Jas.
H. Kirkland, president of Vanderbilt
university, and Lawton B. Evans, superintendent
of the school" of Augusta
