Attract Fine Exhibits to Columbia.
T.he raising of live stock, which is
now agitated throughout the State,
will receive much attention at the
annual State fair in Columbia in that
attractive prizes will be offered for
the best stock placed in the pens
here.
The entries in this department close
October 29. Among the rules governing
the contest for honors is this:
"No barren animal shall be allowed
to compete. Any cow three years old
or over not in calf or milk will be
considered barren."

and over in each of these classes $20

American Hereford Cattle Breeders'

gold medal, offered for the best bull
and one for the best cow, any breed.

Clemson Will Cooperate at State Fair
at Columbia, Oct. 31 to Nov. 4.
That the agricultural resources of
the State are to be fully at
the State fair \\ur is shown by

ing attractive the annual collecting of
the field crops.
In addition to the aid secured
from Clemson college, the agricultural
schools of the State, the fair
authorities are very anxious for farmers
to send samples of their products
for exhibit. Encouraging letters have
been received from every section of
the State showing interest in this
department and the superintendents
say that they hope this year's outlay
of field crops will rival all other departments'
efforts.
During the summer Prof. J. X.
Harper, director of the Clemson experiment
station, has been soliciting
exhibits and their work has been
crowned with success. In this work
Prof. Harper was aided by his associate
professors at Clemson. When
the State fair opens, October 31, Prof.
Harner and those who are working
with him, will be here to make an attractive
arrangement of the articles
and samples of crops sent here. Clemson
college will have a large exhibit,
but nothing from the col1 will be
in competition with in" exhibits.

products is $75, second prize $25.
