I pi COLUMBIA V J totototototo Court Proceedings. The regular fall term of the court of general sessions for this county began on Monday with the Hon. Geo. W. Gage, of Chester, presiding. With that promptness which has ever characterized his official career, the Hon. Frank W. Shealv, clerk of the court, bad everything in readiness. Solicitor George Bell Tirr.merman, Stenographer Anderson and the < ther officials of the court were at their posts. The first case called for trial was that of the State against M. B. Buff and Artie Buff, father and son respectively, charged with assault and battery with intent to kill. The prosecutor is former County Commissioner John W. Hendrix. It is alleged that the Buffs, fired upon Mr. Hendrix and his two sons wime mc unto passing along the road in front of the Ruff home on the 25th of la9t March. The defendants claim that neither of them did the shoe ting, but that Miss Melissa Buff, daughter of M. B. Buff, who, it is alleged, had been wronged by John Hendrix, Jr., fired the gun. The young woman went on the stand and admitted that she did the shooting. After remaining out six hours, the jury returned with a verdict of not guilty as to M. B. Buff and finding Artie Buff guilty of aggravated assault. Judge Gage sentenced the young man to pav a fine of $100 cr serve CO days. The fine was paid. AdamFelder. a negro, pleaded guilty to the charge of selling cocaine, and was sentenced to serve CO days on the gang. The sentence was suspended, however, pending good behavior. Jas. Bnndrick, a young white man from the Dutch Fork, was tried and acquitted upon the charge of selling whiskey. The trial of Claude C. Gantt, of Swansea, for the murder of Fred Caughmau last March, was begun yesterday afternoon and will likely consume all of today. Court will last the balance of this week and probably all of next.
