The election of Cole L. Blease governor
oyer C. C. Featherstone marks
the close of one of the most interesting
and fiercely fonght battles in the
political history of the State since the
bitter days of 1890. Mr. Blease's victory,
in many respects, is the most
remarkable in the State's history, and
is even more remarkable than the
election of Capfc. Tillman in 1890.
Tillman had an issue and was in forefront
of a great political revolution.
He was the beneficiary of a condition.
Such cannot be Baid of Mr. Blease.
"There was no distinct, clean-cut issue
for which he stood. His election is
the result of a perfect organization of
loyal followers?a personal tribute?
combined with a loud and angry protest
against the apparent attempt of
the press of tne State to dominate its
politics. The phychology of the re.
suit is a protest against the power of
the press. The people have asserted
their right to do their own thinking
and Mr. Blease may thank the most
vehement of the opposition press for
bis elevation to the Chief Magistracy
or tne siaie,

There is only one State Fair in
South Carolina. It will be held in
Colombia, October 31, November 1, 2,
3, 4. The program will be more
elaborate than heretofore.
The people of the State generally i
make this their one meeting place of 1
