Private Koon says that when he was called out he stepped four paces to the front and reared up on hi9 heels and tried to look like he was six feet high. Captain Black said "Budy, you cant come it. You better go back to your mother.'' He told the Captain that mother and father were both dead and that he was alone. When he reached the age of 18 he joined the company anj7* way and his Captain Eichelberger promised to nurse and care for him in camp. But the captain was not a good nurse and got more than he bargained for at the battle around Richmond and disappeared from the company and from the firing line. The little private held on. At Gettvshnrsr three of his company reached the rock wall the first day and he is the only survivor. He was true ar d brave and obedient to every call for duty during the war. He is living and prospering today, honest, manly, independent in thought and just in all business affairs. It was a good pleasnre to meet him again and to know that he was living and working and taking care of himself.
