The democratic primary passed off
.% quietly thrpnghout the county yesterday.
The returns show that the vote
was lighter than two years ago by
several hundred votes, From the partial
returns, which we have gathered,
it seems that Col, J, Brooks Wingard
is elected to the House on the first
ballot, and it is probable that Hon,
Isaac Edwards is also elected, As it
now stands the second race for the
House will be between Shuler and
Bedd,
Wingard has defeated Malpass for
treasurer; Drafts is again elected
judge of probate over Hayes,
For county commissioners no one
seems to have received a majority and
James Caughman, S, Rufus Smith, W,
L, Addy, and John W, Smith will be
15 in the second race,
The remaining boxes to be heard
from are so remote that we do not
feel it would be wise to hold-over untill
the official count is made to-mor
row, as the result could hardly be
changed, We will print the official
