C., as second class matter. ? i CIRCULATION 2.327. Lever's Lumber Vote. That great bugaboo of a "lumber Vote" that one or two people seemed to think was going to do so much harm to Lever, didn't put in much of an appearance at the Lexington meeting Wednesday, and we just guess it's going to be the same way in Orangeburg county and all over the district. In speaking of the campaign meeting at Lexington the Columbia Record's reporter said: "The greatest ovation so far accorded any candidate on this campaign was given Congressman A. F. Lever by the people of his home county yesterday afternoon. Round after round of applause was accorded Mr. Lever. When fie had finished speaking, the audience cheered for several minutes. Mr. Lever called mam7 of his auditors by name; he knew them and tb< y knew him and it could be seen that they didn't gire a j rap how he voted on any of the sehed- j ules of the turiix bill."?Orangeburg Sun. The above is from the Orangeburg 3 Sun. No one in the great audience who heard Mr. Lever's great speech j had any doubt tint his vote was in j the interest of the taxpayers cf the j South and the district. His .clear, | frank exposition with respect f-> the 1 small duty on lumber showed beyond j question that the duty does net anfi j cannot effect the pric-* of lumber oi ! this State, because of too prokioitivo j freight rates on Canadian lumber, j which make ch? shipment e;l sale c i' ! such lumber in South Carolina an in: possibility. We sail lumber to 0.-i:a- j da and buy nono from i; and homo | the tariff does k -t tfi.r: the price. ! Among the popular new.-paper men in Lexington lor the campaign last Wednesday was Mr. R L. JVI. Scott, news editor of the 0 dunibbi State.
