Efird, the Lexingtoi County Democratic Executive Com mittee met ii the court house on Mor day. There was a fairly good attend anoe, and the meeting was for th most part harmonious, save now an then a heated discussion on the dil ferent subjects before the assembly. Upon motion of Hon. W. H. Sharpe the Hon. C. M. Efird addressed th members on his proposition of free ing the bridges across the Congare and Broad rivers, an outline of whic was published in the Dispatch las week. In beginning his masterful presents tion of this subject Mr. Efird state that he was moved by a desire to ac for the public good?for the presevs tion of the old county?the county c his birth?and for tae benefit of a the people within her borders. H pointed out the disastrous affects ths would certainly follow the annexatic of Congaree township and a portio of the Dutch Fork to Richland count] and declared that the time had arrii ed when the people must act, if th old county is to b3 preserved. I ringing tones he declared that th day of toll bridges is past, and ths the people of Lexington should rail to the cause and make the bridge free without further delay. * * * " 1 i r */r_ TiC-JIr, nA AC cue CU1JUXUH1UU ui iur. uuiu a a\, I dress remarks were made by Mi I Sharpe, E. Th ; following resolution, offered b Hou. W. H. Sharpe, was adopte almost unanimously, Mr* Ranch bi iug the only member of the eommi tee to oppose the measure: "Resolved that the officers of th committee be, and they are hereby authorized and instructed to placo i the foot of the county ticket for th approaching primary election the fo lowing: pa?a?? ww iMMMMmamCTpa?M id Boiler Fittings, Gi ng usually carried in partment carries everything I imobilists are Invited to Ct J MR. No. 3 4 '4Be it further resolved that any f. citizens of the county so desiring may discuss the issue at the campaign meetings."' e It wa9 explained by Mr. Efird that this step was merely to get the sentie raent of the people, and that the Lexh ington delegation would not make the provision for raising the $25,000 unless the people of the territory now prot. | posed to cut off voted to remain in the d old county. It is generally conceded that Governor Ansel will order an L_ election on the annexation proposi)f tion at an early date?certainly before 11 the legislature meets and the people e will have ample time in which to call off the proposition should the people n decide to go to Richland. n There was a warm discussion when the matter of electing magistrates was j*. brought up. Hon. W. H. Sharp? ad,e dressed the committee in favor of letn ting the candidates for magistrate go e before the people the same ai other office-seekers. This was vigorously y opposed by E. U. Shealy and Magis>s trate E. T. Ranch, of the Fork, both of whom declared that better men l_ could be secured by legislative apr# pointment. When the matter finally x came to a test, the committee decidl6 ed by a vote of 17 to 13 that candio dates for magistrate must go into the o primary. t Assessments of candidates was fixed ,y as follows: House, $8; treasurer $15; d auditor, $15; county commissioner,a. $2; judge of probate, $5; magistrate, t- $5- , ^ ? is State Candidates Today.
