Made a Locomotive. One of the most ingenious pieces of mechanism ever seen about here is a miniature locomotive made by Mr. Jno. J. Eargle, a machinist at tbe Newberry mills. It is four feet long is perfect in every detail, and runs like blazes when fired up. It is substantially built and is strong. Several of the parts were cast by Mr. Lewis Jones, after models furnished. Mr. Jones is also in the machine shops at the mills. The locomotive is a very interesting object, and its construction shows fine mechanical skill. Mr. Eargle has also made a small stationary engine that works perfectly.? Newberry Observer. A Marietta young man, who has made a success in his own business, never made a truer utterance than when he said, '*No man can succeed in any community who fails to pay his debts." You can watch it when you may, and the man who pays his debts has the confidence of the people and is aided, and has a good word spoken constantly in his favor while the man who owes nearly everybody and pays up one is marked, "No Good," and soon finds the road down foil greased for the oocasion. Old man, young man, if you would be honored, trusted and prosperous in any community, be industrious, keep from whiskey and pay your debts. If you think you can reach the goal of success by a shorter route than pursuing the safe but straight road of honesty, you will be sadly mistaken. All along the road of dishonesty you will find human wrecks, bleaching skeletons of bankrupt characters, fettered and disgraced criminals, blasted hopes and dishonored names. Stand true to the principles of integrity, pay your debts, and be "the noblest work of God," "an honored man." Turn over a new leaf, deserve the confidence of your fellow men and you will receive it. A good name is better than riches. Happi ness can never be obtained while a guilty conscience washes itself like an unnamed lion in a cage. True happiness comes from right living and right doing. Be true to thyself and tby God, then thou cans't not be false to any man.?Marietta Journal. ?
