Barret?G-sorgs.
On last Thursday evening at 7:30
o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Barrett, on south main street,
their beautiful and accomplished
daughter, Mi98 Bessie, was married to
Mr. Byron E. George, the Rev. J. 0.
Counts, of the Methodist church, performing
the ceremony.
The house was beautifully decorated,
the work of the friends of the bride,
making a scene of ^eauty and loveliness.
Immediately after the ceremony
a bounteous supper was served
the large number of guest9, after
which the bride and groom departed
in Mr. Samuel B. George's handsome
automobile for the city ot Columbia,
where they have set up house-keeping
in their attractive new home, at
. Colonial Heights.
[ The bride is an attractive young
woman and by her charming manners
has endeared herself to a wide circle
of sincere friends The groom is a
prominent contractor, a member of
one of Lexington's oldest and best
families, and enjoys a popularity
eqnal to that of his fair bride.
They were the recipients of many
handsome ^nd useful gifts.
Miss Slay Boozsr a Graduate, j
Miss May Boozer, the attractive
daughter of Mrs. Lizzie Boozer, of
Lexington, is among the list of graduates
at the College for Women this
year. Miss Boozer gave her graduating
recital on Friday eyening to a
large and appreciative audience. According
to the account given by The
State on Saturday, she "crowned her- j
self with glory." The State says:
"Last evening at the College for Women,
Miss Lois May Boozer gave her
graduate piano recital before a most
appreciative audience. Miss Boozer is
a pupil of Robert Welles Hughes, upon
whose training she reflected great
credit by her playing of a long and
extremely taxing programme. Her
technique is clear and clean and delightfully
equal to most exacting demands
upon it; her touch is virile and
decisive to a remarkable degree and
her playing notably void of youthful
exaggerations and affections. * *
After each number Miss Boozer was
heartily applauded and she received
magnificent flowers."

was transacted. No resolutions were
passed, and the only business of general
interest was the election of delegates
to the state convention, which
meet9 in the city of Newberry on July
4th and 5th, and the election of officers
for the ensuing year.
W. H. Hare, H. D. Crosson and Olin
F. Nunnamaker were chosen to represent
the order at the state convention.
In the election of officers W. H.
Hare was elected president; Lonnie
B. Addv, vice-president; H. D. Crosson,
secretary, and K. Harman, treasurer.
There aie no more popular gentlemen
in the county than the "boys who
carry the mail," and Lexington always
enjoys haying them here.
?
Bates "Sells It For Less."
The people everywhere have learned
to know that W. D. Bates, in Columbia,
"sells it for less." This much is
evidenced by the increasing sales at
his store. The recent "hat sale" conducted
by Bates wa9 an entire success
in eyery sense of the word. But
he still has a world of bargains for
you. Just read the announcement in
another column and go to his store at
once
Bates is one of the closest buyers in
the 8outh and his wonderful success
in Columbia places bim at the very
top of the business ladder. He has
climbed there by degrees?by persistent
effort and by dealing fairly and
honestly with his trade. He makes
every dollar do its full duty, and when
you trade at his store you have the
satisfaction of knowing that you are
getting your money's worth every
time.
Every department at Bates' is a veritable
9tore of oargains?bargains for
you and bargains for me. There i9
not an nour in tne aay mat tneie is
not "something doing" at Bates's.
If you want to get the best fori less
don't buy until you have seen the bargains
now offered by W. D. Bates.
The Bidgell Prize Awarded.
Three essays were submitted to
compete for the Ridgell prize. The
committee decided that No. 335 was
the best. This paper was given in by
Miss Hattie Pearl Hook, of Irmo.
It would be a good thing if this
work could be kept up and it would
be better if more wonld compete.
Very tiulv, A. D. MARTIN,
County Supt. Education.
