Crops Not Doing Well.
TLe very recent cold has damaged
crops to a very great extent. Cotton,
in most instances, was just coming up,
and the cold has caused a great deal
of it to die out, and that which is up
does not bear a very good color.
| There is a great deal of complaint
about bad stands of corn, due to the
work of the heart worm, which has
played havoc in many sections.

was in town yesterday on legal busi

the Hebron section on to New Brookland.

Mr. George has recently installed a
telephone system in Swansea, whict

School Closing Lt. Mountain.
The closing exercises of the Little
Mountain High School will begin on
Sunday, May 22, at 8 o'clock p. m.,
with an educational sermon in Holy
Trinity church by the Rev. E. J Sox.
On Monday night the exercises will be
, furnished by the scholars. On Tuesday
night the graduating class, consisting
of nine boys and girls, will
read their essays and receive theii
certificates; and an address will delivered
by Dr. Roy Z. Thomas of Newberry
College.
The Chaingang.
The chaingang will move in fe\i
days to the Fork where they will take
the leading roads and put them in
such order as will make her peop e
proud. Uncle Lewis is certainly entitled
to all praise for such road work
as he is putting in now. The trouble
bfis been, our people have, all this
time, contented themselves and let
the roads go, being averse to any ta3
for this purpose. But while Lexingtor
has been far behind her sister counties
