Billy Feliz's Letter.
To the Editor of The Dispatch:
Everything is quite and ere long the
silence will be broken by the tread
and voice of the candidate. Come
out, boys, 41 the early bird catches the
worm." '
The reoent cold snap nipped things
about, retarded the growth of all vegetable
matter and stagnated the progress
of all business generally. The
dryness of the weather saved the
fruit.
Rev. H. M. Fallaw and family of
Woodruff, spent a few days here recently
with relatives and friends. He
preached an ahle and instructive sermon
at Gaston on Wednesday evening.
Lester, the baby boy of our esteemed
friend, G. A. Goodwin, is sick with
a case of fever. Under the treatment
of Dr. L. C. Brooker, we wish for him
a speedy recovery.
J. F. Fallaw, who has been commissioned
postmaster here, has taken
charge, with Mrs. M. I. Fallaw assistant
and his daughter, Miss Lula, as
clerk.
Mrs. Lee N. Fallaw, of Columbia, is
here for a while nursing her young
brother, Lester Goodwin.
J. C. Goodwin has moved into his
new residence on route 1. The next j
to move in will be a bride, we pre1
sume, to share his joyg and sorrows.
? The health of the happy Felix family
is better than when we last wrote.
, Hon. W. H. Sharpe passed by re- i
3 cently on legal business.
Butler Fallaw. Albert Cockerel and j
8 George Fallaw, of Baxter, paid these
g parts a visit recently, and spoke in
9 highest terms of the hospitality of our
people.
L We are painfully sorry to chronicle
. the illness of our good friend, Mrs. D.
E. Craft, of Swansea. She was our
1 door neighbor for years prior to mov^
ing to Swansea, and we always found
[j her to be a true christian lady.
?, We regret to lose our esteemed
8 fpiptiH nnd natron. .T. W. Render. He
has sold out to Mr. and Mrs. John 0.

early date. We will giacily welcome

One of the troubles in securing publie
roads in Newberry is that the people [
who use them have come to depend ;
entirely upon the chaingaug rather j
than work the little road along their
own premises that they have occasion j
constantly to use; they will travel over ,
mud holes and ditches and complain !
that the chaiugang never came into j
their section, whereas, if they would i
take the labor that is on their own j
place and work it for a siiort time the
roads would be kept in good condition. I
We would like to see a few of the pro-1
gressive farmers of the county put the j
roads which pass through their own j
places iti good condition, even if it j
were done in their own time. It would j
be a great convenience to them and I
an advertisement to their progressiveness
and besides the good it would do
them it would become contagious and
others would soon do likewise. A little
self-help in the matter of road
building would soon work wonders.
