by an ordinance dnly enacted by the
Town Council of the Town of Lexington,
S. C-, a levy of Ten (10) mills
has been made on all the taxable
property within the corporate limits
of said town for municipal purposes
for the year 1910.
The tax books will be kept open by
the undersigned, at his usual place of
business in said town, for the collection
of the said town, for the collee-/
tion of the said taxes so levied, from
May 4, 1910, to May 30, 1910, both inclusive,
after which time a penalty of
five (3] per cent, will be added and
the books kept open until June 13, 1910.
for the collection of delinquent taxes
and penalty.
Tax executions will be issued against
all defaulting taxpayers af er June 15,
1910,^to enforce the pavn.ent of all unpaid

More than a billion and a half dollars
are spent annually for booze by
the American people. This is a direct
liquor tax of ?31 a year on each family
of five persons. It was a mighty
smart, far-seeing man who first said j
that the indirect taxes forced upon I
our people were far more burdensome
than the direct taxe9.
The remedy: Raise one generation
of boys fiee from the blighting influence
of the saloon and the next generation
following will grow up to manhood
so sensible and moral that, the
saloons will die of quick staryation.?

Points Regarding The Census.
The census begins on Friday, April
15 and must be completed in two
week in cities and in thirty days in all
other areas.
The enumerators will wear a badge
inscribed ''United States Census,
1910."
The law requires every adult person
to furnish the prescribed information,
but also provides that it shall be treated
confidentially, so that no injur}'
can come to any person from answering
the questions.
The President has issued a proclamation,
calling on all citizens to cooperate
with the Census and assuring
them that it has nothing to do with
taxation, army or jury service, compulsory
school attendance, regulation
of immigration, or enforcement ol' any ,
law, and that no one can be injured
by answering the inquiries.
It is of the utmost importance that
the census of population and agriculture
in this state be complete and cor
rect.
Therefore every person should
promptly, accurately, and completely
answer the census questions asked by
the enumerators.
The Florence Electric and Utility
company, of Florence, has been chartered,
with a capital stock of $100,000.
Andrew P. Malony, of Philadelphia,
is president.
Commissioner Watson reports that
there is a decrease of 358 children under
12 years of age working iu the cotton
mills this year. Last year the decrease
was 279; so there is net decrease
for this year of 79.
James S. Havens, a democrat, was
elected congressman from the 22nd
district of New York. He run on a I
tariff reform platform and defeated |
his republican opponent by a good- |
sized majority.
However, it v ill be some time before
the country can be brought to regard
the Hon. N. Longworth as the
official spokesman for his illustrious
father-in-law.
