C. f i To Organize County Corn Growers' Association. t I have receiyed the following letter from Prof. Ira W. Williams, which 0 is self explanatory: "I think it would be well for you to 0 call a meeting of the citizens of your a County, as many as you think would ttake an active interest in the matter, b. and organize what would be known as ~ A s?nr>iation. <% VJV^UU IJ vvi il VIAV ff V* V/ This coulu be composed of farmers, ei merchants, bankers and every man 0 who is interested in growing more and better corn in South Carolina. If K' we grow corn wTe protect the price of w cotton, make the farmer independent. By growing corn intelligently it makes 0 for the farmer one of the most profit- 0 able farm crops. Should we increase ei our production as we should we could S( in a very short period stop the im- c portation into our State of any corn ^ whatever and ail other things will be ? added. P "I am going to ask you then to set n apart the second Saturday in April to organize this association in every ^ County in the State in which we work. ^ The association need not hold more than one or two meetinge a year and need not be composed of over one dozen men, or at least this arrangement would be successful. You should elect a president and secretary and the object of the association should be n: to aid in every way to promote the s' growth of corn in South Carolina." w In accordance with the above letter tl I hereby call a meeting of all farmers w and all others interested in corn growing, to beheld at Lexington C.
