Teachers who are now teaching in
the free public schools of this county,
and who do not hold certificates as
required by law, should take notice of
the following communication which

"In view of the failure of many
teachers to comply with the law requiring
certificates to teach in the
free public schools, this board craeis
an extra teachers' examination to be
held on the 7th of January, 1910."
It is very important that teachers
should hold certificates and have
them recorded in the office of the

Silled Himself While Hunting:
Mr. Barkin B. Berley, a planter of
the Mt. Pleasant section of Newberry
county, accidentally shot himself at 9
o'clock Wednesday morning while
out bird hunting, the load penetrating
1 his left leg just below the knee, and
producing a hemorrhage from which
he died at 3 o'clock Wednesday afteri
noon.
Blizzard Sweeps South
Dallas, Tex., Dec. 18.?With the
thermometor hovering around the
| zero mark throughout Texas, the
South and Southwest is in the grasp
of the worst blizzard of the winter.
Snowfall varying from a half to three
: inches is reported from almost every
direction. Other points are reporting
cold rains and sleet. The blizzard ha3
| extended itself from Texas north
through the Arkansas, Mississippi and
Tennessee and at Memphis the heaviest
fall of snow this year is reportedfl
PENSION NOTICE.
The Pension Commissioner will be
in the Auditor's office on each Saturday
in January, 1910, to give out suitable
blanks to each applicant. All
applicants must appear in person for
blanks. No blanks will be sent out
unless very extreme cases. Full instructions
will be given when applicant
applies for blanks. The County
Pension Board will meet on the first
Monday in February, 1910. The old
board will serve to pass upon all applications,
after which date no blanks
will be given out. The old representatives
will serve for 1910, and will
send to commissioner the names of all
pensioners who have died or moved
out of the county since, last pension
roll w?s paid off. Also the names of
th.ose on roll who should not receive
- pensions, with facts to satisfy board.
