charge of fighting. It is understood
that this makes the third woman on
the gang now, ail of them having
been sent up from Brookland. Women
are in great demand at the camn,
as there has been much difficulty in
keeping cooks during the last year.

Miss Annie Laura H.tmmett, of Laurens,
had a peculiar experience a few
days ago, rather exciting and somewhat
unusual. It was the finding of a
cabbage snake inside an apple that
she had bitten. Miss Hammett was

a small rotten spot on one side. The
snake about four inches long, was
curled up and coiled around the core
of the apple.
Visitors to the State fair this year
will have an opportunity of seeing the
nation's chief. President Taft comes

A debt of twenty-five cents is said
to have been the cause of the killing
of Canton Twiggs, at a negro church
about four miles from Windsor, in
Aiken county, by Cicero Holland,
both negroes.
