Mr. W. Scott Harman, formerly of
this place, now of Rockingham, N. C.,
and a faithful employee of Great
Falls Cotton Mill, visited his relatives
and friends here few days of last
week, returning on Sunday. He did

The enrollment of pupils at the
Palmetto Collegiate Institute increased
twenty this week among this
number being Homer Long from Prosperity,
son of C. C. Long.
Mr. John L. Derrick, one of the
best farmers of the Piney Wood9 section
and a clever man, was here on
Monday to re-enter his son Olin in the
Palmetto Collegiate Institute for the
session. While here Mr. Derrick
called in to see U9 and handed us a
dollar for another year's subscription
to The Dispatch.
Mr. F. G. Hartley, the prominent
merchant and naval stores dealer of
Summit, was here yesterday oil matters
of business.
Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Roof and Mr.
W. P. Roof, Jr., spent Sunday at Baxter,
where they were the guests of the
family of Dr. Kneece. The trip was
made in Mr. Sam Roof's handsome
Buick without a single mishap, and
the visit was very much enjoyed.

Teachers' Examination.
I desire to make knowft through your
paper a communication from the State
Superintendent relative to tne Teachers'
Examination to be held here on the
first day of October next. It says: "At
its meeting, September 7th, the State
Board of Educatiou appointed Friday,
October 1st, as the day for the next
regular Teachers' Examination. Kindly
advertise this date in your county
papers, in order that every prospective
applicant may have due notice of the
time."
The examination will begin at 9
o'clock a. m and a!l applicants should
be here at that time.
