SOME GOOD ADVICE
I
From an Arkansas Farmer to His j
Brother Farmers.
A correspondent from Thornton,
Calhoun county, Ark., to the TriCounty
Advocate of Fordyce, closes
an interesting communication a9 follows
:
"Yes, let's pusli back to those good
old ante-bellum days when prosperity
and happiness were known and sweet
Ddor of home-raised meats were waft2d
on every breeze in the nearby old
-moke house. And our barns fairly
groaned beneath the weight of their
burden of grain and hay and fat,
sleek horses and mules fed on this
home-raised feed stuff, and laughed at
the good time they were having. Our
3tock are tired of eating corn stalks
and com cobs, and saw dust ground
into meal, and sold for feed stuff.
Their hungry, bony bodies speak in
tones unmistakable of our depravity
j.nd idle shiftlines9. And| they demand
a change. Why does this condition
of affairs exist? Because our
people have gone crazy about cotton,
i nd have neglected the blessing our
climate and soil have offered in solving
the problem of life's happiness.
We need to go forward by turning
Dackward again and entering that era
)f living at home and enjoying that
independence we have not had on aclnnnJ

;era. Here is a field of great usefulless
for the young farmers. A field
jf much promise and a field of brillant
development of hopes which will
)ring about the desired happiness.
iJo right about face, farmers. A
change is needed to bring the real
lappinees and prosperity of the old
inte-bellum days of the closing of the
forties, when every one had solid
comforts and business that life deired:
Corn in the crib,
Chickens in the yard;
Meat in the smdke house,
And a tub full of lard.
Milk in the dairy,
Batter by the load;
Coffee in the box
And auger in the gourd.
Cream in the pitcher*
Honey in the mug;
Cider in the demijohn.
And liquor in the jog.
