This is the first day of August, 1909.
On the first day of August, 1859, my
little boy was born to me. How I
loved bim. how proud I was of my
dark eyed, dark haired little fellow!
I cherished him as the idol of my
heart. Many nights I worked with
my needle until midnight for money
to buy shoes and clothes for my bright,
beautiful boy, and he would nestle
close to me at night and ask for his

was in the army and I was alone in =
tie country. My boy grew finely and
in bodily activity was about the average,
and in mental brightness and 1
quickness had few equals. He was E>
not "spoiled," but grew into boyhood
with a dignity and bearing well worthy ex

have him to comfort and console me
in my old days in this world of sorrow
and trouble. His father died many pp
years ago, and I am all alone. My $
boy lives, but where, oh, where is he? ^
