POISONED AT GREEK.
Greenville, July 26.?The young son
Dr. James, a prominent physician
:>f Greer, died early this morning in
most excruciating agony. The father
kurriedly leaving home yesterday afternoon
accidentally dropped a bottle of
morphine on the porch floor and the
ittle fellow picked it up and, when discovered
by his mother, had eaten the
greater part of the contents of the bot- j
ile. A physician was quickly sum- j
noned and a stomach pump applied, j

The State Farmers' Union.
It ia expected that there will be from
75 to 200 delegates here this week ir
attendance upon the State Farmers'
union. The meetng will be called tc
order Wednesday night at the State
house.
The connention will have before il

great interest, not only to the farmer,
but to all others whose prosperity if
bound up with that of the farming
class. It is expected therefore, thai
the session of the covention, whicl
will hold for about three days wil
be largely attended. The railroads will
give reduced rates and as the conven
tioa comes off at a time when farming
operations are not so pressing, there h

Groom Proves To Be Slayer.
Denver, Colo, July 23.?James W. Rob
inson, who was arrested here yesterdaj
on suspicion of being J. L. Byrd wantec
in Memphis, Tenn, for the murder ir
1907, of Jas Black, a shoe dealer of thai
city, to-day confessed lie was the murderer.
Byrd was married two weeks age
at Colorado Springs, and with his bride
was enjoying his honeymoon at Denvei
Robinson confessed at the requst ol
his bride.
After the chief of police had questioned
Robinson for some time, Mrs
Robinson exclaimed:
"Jimmie, if you are the man, tel
them. It will make no difference to me
because I will stick by you, no matte]
what the circumstances."
Robinson, white and shaking ther
said:
"Chief, I am the man you want.]
killed Black because I thought my life
was ki danger. We engaged in anargu
ment over a base ball bet, and he started
towards me with an open knife in hi:
hand. I seized the only weapon at ham
a shoe stretcher, and struck him ovo:
the head with it. I did not mean t<
kill him."

tried, the first trial the jury failing tc
reach a verdict. The second trial
was had at the February term of court,
when the jury found for the plaintiff
in the sum of $16,600. The action was
brought for $25,000.
