The Two Great Games
By Grantland Rice.
Life and Base Ball, game for game,
You'll find are pretty much the same;
In both, no matter what you do,
And when you make some brilliant
play
You'll hear the same bunch yell
"Horrav;"
1 But on the top or lowest roost
You'll find they'd rather knock than
boost.
In both you've got to "run em out;"
You'll find in both, when you have
tried,
To get there first you've got to slide;
And get afound the bases fast in both
to reach home plate at last;
But more than all, ere you rank
high,
You've got to have a "batting eye."
You'll find in both you have the need
Of bruins above brute strength or
speed?
You'll find both games are full of
curves
And twists that get upon your
nerves,
With "bad decisions" all along.
That put you up against it strong,
Yet at the "Urops" to take a fling
You'll find won't get you anything.
In both games you 9hold listen to
The coacher who is helping you;
In both 9tand gamely to the plate
And swing before it is too late,
Remembering that none can hit
The ball that's in the catchers mit;
In other words, to make a name
In either, you must play the game.

Registration Books
Can Not Be Opened.
Gov. Ansel has notified the authorities
of Williamsburg county that the
registration books could not be opened
again before the election in August on
the dispensary question and the formation
of Rutledge county.
A letter was also received by the
attorney general asking if the registration
books could be opened in that
county and the same reply was made.
Spvoral xxToolra acrrt f hp aff/irnpv crpn.
eral gave an opinion on the matter I
that the last day on which the books
could be opened for the registration of ~
voters was on the first monday in July.
The law requires that the books be
closed 30 days before the election, but
on account of the vote on the new
county and the dispensary vote both
bting held August 17, many thought
the books might be opened up until 30
days before the election. However, it
has already been decided that the fo
books of registration should be closed
after the first Monday in July.?The

Judge Fires the Jury.
In the criminal court at "Xorkville
Wednesday, Judge Memminger dismissed
the entire panel of the jury
because the jury failed to convict men
on trial for assault with intent to kill,
of carrying concealed weapons, although
two admitted on the stand r?
that they had guns.
Judge Memminger told the jurors
they could make York county ridiculous
by their verdict but he did not X
propose to have them make him ridiculous
and he would refuse to preside
with them. PI
The jurors were stunned and walked
out of the court room crestfallen.
