Sold Sis Wife.
The circuit court sitting in Portland,
Ore., will hear arguments this
week in the strangest case that has
ever appeared on its docket. John
Broganza, a German, after selling his
wife to H. Ruddart for $150, has entered
suit against her purchaser on
charge of alienating her affections.
Attorneys fail to see how BrogaDza
can have been damaged as he claims
since he sold, exchanged and bartered
his wife.

Lookout For Them.
Swindlers and smooth-tongued
agents, of one sort and another,
seem to be particularly active among
farmers this spring. Director Waters,
of the Missouri Experimental Station,
has just issued a warning to Missouri
farmers, cautioning them against per*
mitting themselves to bo deceive^
by parties who are traveling through
southeast Missouri, claiming to represent
the Horticultural Department of
the Agricultural College, and selling
to farmers a liquid preparation for the
destruction of insects on fruit treee.
These parties claim that the college
has bben using this preparation for five
years, and that as a result they have
discontinued spraying the trees, but
use this liquid instead. They claim,
farther, that the cost of the liquid is
$10 a gallon, but that as the college is
bearing a part of the expense with the
farmers of the State, the agent can
sell it at $4 a gallon to farmers only.
Director Waters says that these agents
are frauds, and cautions the farmers
against allowing themselves to be deceived.?Farmers

Panics and One-Crop Farmers.
Unless a man is a one-crop farmer
panics can affect him but little. There
is always a demand for every product
of the farm, and the man who diversifies
is certain of a surplus revenue
after all of his expenses have been
paid, A town man must pay rent, and
this the farmer saves. The farmer also

besides this: "I want to go on record as

Teach Them to Shoot.
The terrible news from treorgetown
calls to mind a suggestion made by
The Times many years ago, when
fiendish crimes were of almost daily
occurance. Our suggestion, at that
time, was that girls shall be taught in
the public schools the use of the pistol,
and that the law against carrying concealed
weapons be amended so as to
not apply to women.
Every woman ought to know how
to handle a pistol, and be allowed to
go armed is convincing to us, and if
such was the case there would be far
less of these horrifying crimes committed,
because of the fact of the
probability of being armed would deter
these cowardly brutes from attempting
to carry out their fiendish
desires.
Take the Georgetown case: if that
unfortunate lady had been taught the
use of a pistol end had one in the
vehicle she was driving in, the scoundrel
would have been shot down before
he could have placed his unholy
hands upon her. The statesmanship
of this country must do something to
- . _ >
insuie safety to our women, ana we
cannot think of a better thing at this
time than to teach them how, and
provide them with the means of selfdefense.?Manning

___ /
You need a sufficient amount of
good wholesome food and more than
this you need to fully digest it.
Else you can't gain strength, nor
can you strengthen your stomach if
it is weak.
You must eat in order to live and
k maintain strength.
You must not diet, because the
body requires that you eat a sufficient
amount of food regularly.
But this food must be digested,
and it must be digested thoroughly.
When the stomach can't do it,
you must take something that will
help the stomach.
The proper way to do is to eat
what you want, and let Kodol di|
gest the food.
Nothing else can do this. When
the stomach is weak it needs help;
you must help it by giving it rest,
and Kodol will do that.
