He leaves a wife and a large family of small children. He was buried yesterday at West End cemetery, Rev. J. F. McGill, performing the borial service. Mr. Davis was a member of the Baptist church and a good pleasant hard working man. His family has the sympathy of many friends.?Newberry Herald and News. The Otaud. Manager Davenport, of the Grand theatre, is Colombia, has secured some of the finest comedians, dancers and singers in the country. The Grand is now completed and people of the city are showing their appreciation of Mr. Davenport's efforts by their attendance. The programme for this week is especially attractive. i. o. "o. P. The members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows from this place were delighted with their trip to Aiken in attendance upon the grand lodge, which was well represented from all parts of the State. They will meet at Spartanburg next May. w ~ w II Recei N w. *al Merc We Quiet Home Wedding Sunday Afternoon. A very pretty wedding was that which occurred Sunday afternoon, when Robert A. Marks and Miss Mary L. DeVane were quietly married by Rev. E. E. Woodson of Buena Vista, the ceremony being performed at the LaBree House on Eleventh street, the home of the bride'9 parents. Only a few friends witnessed the ceremony, which was very simple. The bride was very charming in a simple but becoming gown of with. She had no attendants. After the ceremony, a cream course with wedding cake,*wa9 served to the guests. The bride is a very charming young woman, of many estimable qualities of character which have endeared her to a ho9t of friends. Mr. Marks is an attache of the News Record office, and by his integrity and ability has won the confidence of his employers and the respect and good will of his fellow employes.?Miami, Fla., News-Record. Five Prisoners Captured. Sheriff P. H. Corley and Deputy Sheriff Sim J. Miller went to Chapln on Monday and arrested John Dreher, I Eliza Eleazer, Hattie Jones, Bessie j Dreher and Lillie Eleazer, all negroes, | charged with resisting arrest. The I negroes were first indicted for trespass j on the lands of Col. J. H. Frick, and j when, on the 11th, Constable L. L. Roof and Pierce Shealy attempted to make the arrest, the negroes resisted and run the officers out of the field with shotguns, hoes, and other instruments of warfare. Eliza Eleazer and Lillie Eleazer were found at home, Sheriff Corley brought them to Lexington, leaving Deputy Sheriff Miller to get the other trio.
