County Commissioner S. Rufus Smith was in town Monday attending a meeting of the county board, and told a Dispatch man about a severe hail storm which visited the Black creek section on last Friday evening about dark. Mr. Smith said that some of the stones were as large as turkey eggs. Shingles on houses v\ ore cracked and the damage to small farm truck and gardens was great. A Correction. In our brief write-up of the farm demonstration work in this county last week we stated that there were only 20 farms in the Dutch Fork under the management of Mr. Jas. W. Shealy. We have learned since that thi9 was an error. Mr. SheaJy nas 30 farms and the work is progressing f nicely. Mr. Shealy is himself an excellent farmer and it goes without saying that he will .make a success of the government's demonstration work. ' i Installation Services. Rev. T. S. Bartow, Fla., April 23.?Strung up to a tree in which he sought refuge and his body riddled with bullets, Charles Scharborough, a negro, who yesterday attempted to assault a lady of Fort Myer, met a speedy death today at the hands of a posse of infuriated men. ' The posse started out with blood- s hounds on the negro's trail soon after j the crime became known and scoured J the woods all night. In a secluded j spot the posse captured the negro today, finding him in the top of a tree which a few minutes later served a9 his scaffold. The negro confessed and without delay a rope was put around his neck and he was drawn up to a limb. The posse then stood off and fired 20 shots into his body. As Monday is Memorial Day, the ! There was a big crowd of Pythians out and the evening was most delightfully spent. School Trustee Arrested. Mr. J. P. Bouknight, chairman of the boaid of trustees of school district No. 53 in the Fork, was arrested on Friday by Deputy Sheriff Miller upon a warrant sworn out by Mrs. J. E. McFadden, a teacher, charging him with violating section 418 of the statutes of South Carolina. Carl Snmmers and Jim Suber, two young negroes, were fined ?15 or 3i days on the gang by Magistrate T. L. Harman on Monday fcr stealing liquor out of a car at the depot. They paid the fine.
