The defendant showed 110 emotion
when the verdict was rendered. Neither
did his mother and sister, by whom
he sat. This was the second trial of
Kargis for this crime. The first resulted
in a mistrial. United States
Senator W. O. Bradley headed the
counsel for the. defense in both trials.
The murder of Judge llargis by Lis
son, Beach, occurred in the judge's
store at Jackson, Breathitt county, on
February G, 10G8.

Lost Her All cn Laces.
Anna Trafford, a widow, of 33 Dean
street, Brooklyn, was before Magistrate
Tighe in New York city on
Thursday, charged with stealing two
loaves of bread and a bottle of milk.
Three years ago Mrs. Trafford had

race-tracks and in poolrooms.
John Trafford, her husband, was a
Peruvian mining promoter. When he
died, in 11)06, he left her a fortune in
money and securities. She told Magistrate
Tighe that 9ne tried to forget
her sorrow by seeking the gavety of
tie ract-tracks, and she almost never
won.
When race-track betting was cutoff
Mrs. Trafford said that she tried to get
her money back by betting in poolrooms.
She only had ?2,000 left a
year ago. She lost this betting on th e
California and southern races
