(' A PASTEUR INSTITUTE TO BE IN COLUMBIA Summerville Special to The State: The state board of health at it's meeting here, decided to establish a bacteriological laboratory at Columbia. Dr. Williams and Dr. Lester were named as a committee to make arrangements for the institution. The laboratory will be for the purpose of furnishing a convenient place for the physicians of the state to have bacteriological examinations made and also to give an opportunity to the people of the state to have the Pasteur treatment in cases where persons are bitten by rabid animals. It will not be possible to have the J- A 1 1 f f 1 laooraiory in uptriinuii iui syuit mvi^ time, as it will take at least 10 days sufficiently to advertise for a director for the laboratory and many other details must be attend to. Bd ITico to Tho Telephone Girl' The telepeone girl sits still in her chair, And listens to voices from everywhere. She hears all the gossip, she hears all the news, She knows who is happy and who has the blue3; She knows all our sorrows, she knows all our joys, She knows ever}' girl who is chasing the boys. She knows of our troubles, she knows of our strife. She knows every man who is mean to his wife. She knows every time we are out with the boys. She hears the excuse each fellow nve She knows every woman who has a dark past; She knows every man who is in el in-, ed to be fast. In fact there's a secret 'nearh each ; saucy curl. Of that quiet, demure looking, telephone girl. If the telephone girl would tell half she knows, It would turn half Our frineds into bitterest foes. She could get all the churches mixed up in a fight, And turn all our days into sorrowing nights. In fact, she could keep the whole town in a stew, If she'd tell the tenth part of the things she knew7. Now doesn't it make your head go a-whirl, When you think what jou owe or the telephone girl?
