To the Editor of The Dispatch : The weather for the past tvee'e has been ideal for farmers and good progress along all lines has been made. The school here, which has been under the management of Miss Lcla Smith the past session, came to a close last Friday. Miss Smith lias taught an excellent school and the I students have made good progress. The Athen's graded school ha9 also closed since our last communication. The past session has been under the tutorage of Prof. S. J. Derrick and Miss Kathleen Kleckley, who have given entire satisfaction. This is one of the best country schools in the county. Steps are being taken looking forward to the erection of an upto-date birlrling. With a little pluck, energy, push and greenbacks this can be done with hurt to no one. James A. Spires with Miss Emma Sharpe appeared at the parsonage (?) of Notary Geo. W. Pound recently ; and were made man and wife and sent j on their way rejoicing. Happy congratulations and best wishes to yon both. H. D. Griffin, the king cotton farm- j er on Route 1, has part of his crop about ready for the hoe. Mrs. J. V. Smith has had some im- j provementsmade in the way of beau- j titying her lawn. The Misses Miller have a beautiful i garden of pretty flowers?and, by the j way, hoys, they are single too. M. L. Rister has some of the latest j improved machinery and is cluing ! some up-to-date farming. Canned fruits, flowers and straw- i berries have been coming this way of j late, making glad the heart of the poor carrier and satisfying the appetites of the happy Felix family, fur all of which we are very thankful. Mr. Editor, don't let Parson Klondike see this or he will long to leturn to the flesh pot of his old route. What's the matter with "Critic" and the Doctor? Ashley, tried last week in federal court here on the charge of peonage, reported this morning to Judge Brawley that it was unable to agree and was discharged. The case will not come up again till the term at Charleston, Columbia or (ireenville. The trial attracted wiu? attention on account of the prominence of the defendant, who is a member of legislative delegation from Anderson county.
