Gallant But Losing Fight.
I The condition of Gen. M. C. Butler
! has been steadily growing worse for
the past several days, and it is feared
| he can hold out but a few days longer
against the disease which is racking
him with pain almost constantly.
Bat though he grows weaker, he has
! apparently never once given up the
I fight. He is cheerful, hopeful and the
splendid courage which has carried
him through many a hard-fought battle
on the field of arms and in the noted
intellectual duels that equally have
made his career noteworthy, has never
j forsaken him. His spendid mind is
apparently as vigorous and keen as
when he was in his prime. He is 9ufl
&
fering from Bright-s disease, however,
! and the symptoms are steadily growing
more alarming.
Among his visitors recently was his
only brother, Dr. Butler, one of the beloved
"country" doctors of the old
school, residing inUuion county.
General Butler is the last survivor
of the Cenfederate generals from this
State.?Columbia Record.
P. J. Rucker, Columbia S. C. say that
he is going into the seed business.
Here's his collection now; Wonder
'garden huckleberry, corn, ground,
head winter cabbage, cluster cucumber,
turnip bpet, bush butter bean,
white okra, neck squash, Acme tomato,
egg plant canteloupe watermelon,
bell pepper and 12 hucklebeerry
plants?all these seeds and
plants for 35 cents. Luther Burbank
gave to the wcrld the best blessing
he ever gave when he gave the Wonder
garden huckleberry. It makes
pies, jelly, jam and wine from June
till frost; over 500 bushels of seed to
the acre; the best thing on earth for
poultry and stock; gathered after
Christmas. I am feeding the seed to
stock and poultry; nothing better; to ;
improve land toothing better. Ever- j
bearing strawberries (too high in
price), I didn'traise them. Will send
them for 15 cents if you wish.
Tie Lyric.
For an evening of fun and amusement
the Lyric theatre in Columbia
has no equal. The program this week
is the best yet and the crowds grow
in numbers afc each perfomance Manager
Rockefeller sees to it that good
order is k#mt and there is nothing to
mar the pleisure of the evenings.
