Minister Slay* Minister. At Russ, a remote town in LaOlede county, Missouri, on Monday Rev. Martin D. Johnson shot and killed Rev. Solomon Odell, Johnson is the Baptist minister of the neighborhood. Odell was a Presbyterian preacher of Russ. The men quarreled over business matters. Johnson is president of the LaClede Connty Telephone company. Odell represented the Farmers' Telephone company, a rival. A meeting was held in the pcstoffice at Russ on Monday looking to a combination of the two companies, Johnson says that Odell made a remark about him and later they met on the street and agreed to settle their difference then and there. Odell was removing his coat when Johnson fired the fatal shot. Johnson then fled. Next day he returned and ^gave him self up. Columbia has presented an official invitation to the C., C. & O.
