Answer?A poor worthless candidate for charity, who begs to have and receive part of the free lunch of this town, set apart for regular customers, as many thousand tramps have done before me. Q. How do you expect to gain the rights and privileges? A. By being a man too lazy to work, not ashamed to beg, and under the tongue of generally bad report. Q. Where can this report be had of you? A. It is in the police reports, inebriate asylums and at the cafes. Q. Prom whence came you? A. From a town in Texas called Booze. Q. Then yon are a regular tramp, I perceive? A. I am so taken and arrested wherever I go. Q. How do you know you are a regular tramp? A. By being often arrested and tried and never acquitted, and expect to be arrested, tried and convicted | again. Q. Where were you first prepared to be a tramp? A. In a small bar-room adjoining my place of abode. Q. How were you then prepared? A. Harley together with the generous contributions they made betokens the fact that a great many of the citizens deplore the evil of drink, and will try to find a remedy. They will have an opporthuity at the polls shortly to say whetner they will retain this curse or not. Worse than the present evil is the ' thought of what it means to the boys of this town to have this temptation always before them. We have in mind the thought of a bright faced lad of about eleven or twelve years ! who was on the street drunk a few weeks ago. Another sad picture comes to mind. One Saturday evening not long ago as we were on our way home, a little chap about four years old, a blue-eyed, golden haired intelligent looking baby boy was out with his father. As we Dassed our attention was drawn to the child by hearing bim crying to his father: "Papa, give me some more whiskey." The father's reply was: I shall not, I want what I have for myself!" What kind of a man will that boy make? Reared in a town where he can gratify the tastes implanted by his father, it is not hard to tell what the end will be. The wretchedness the mother must feel when the father comes reeling home now will be doubled as she sees the boy following iu his father's footsteps. Better indeed is the hour when the cry of anguish wrung from a mother's heart, "Would that my child had died when he was a baby!" Looking at the hundred or more boys who are on the streets every day, no parent is safe in saying that his child will not be affected by this temptation. There is no safeguard so secure as the absence of temptation, and this can be thrown around them only by prohibition. This can be accomplished in August if every voter will do his duty then and afterwards?first by voting whiskey out and then by a combined and determined effort to keep it out.?Branchville Journal. Suicides in Jacksonville Jacksonville, Fla., March 20.?Mrs. Whittaker and Phillip Baker ended their lives in Jacksonville and Jos. Pida, a young man from Tampa, shot himself through the head and tonight is in a dying condition in the hospital. Baker drank a quantity of laudanum, his body being found in his room early this morning. Mrs. Whittaker ended her life by drowning.
