;ronage. Polite and Pr
Court Proceedings.
Judge Dantzler arrived on Wednesday
afternoon and opened court on
Thursday morning, though very much
indisposed.
Thecaseof Perry Seastrunk against
the Leaphart Lumber Co., a damage
suit fdr $5,000 for personal injuries alleged
to have been received while the
plaintiff was in the employ of the
company. After hearing all the testimony
in the case and arguments of
counsel, the jury retired and returned
after being out a short while, with a
verdict in favor of tho defendant.
The plaintiff was represented by Messrs.
Graham & Sturkie; the defend- i
ant by Messrs. Shand & Shand, of
Columbia.
At the conclusion of this case Judge
Dantzler, realizing that his condition
woufifl not permit him to carry on the
hnainess of the court, ordered court
adjourned sine die, and he left for his
home in Orangeburg on Friday morning.
Only four cases, out of about 75 on
the civil docket, were disposed of at
this term. This leaves the dockets in
very bad shape and as it will be June
before another term is held, it can
readily be seen that the next judge
will find his hands full.
No equity cases were heard at all,
and judge Dantzler promised to return
as soon as he finished court at
Edgefield.
Death of a Little One.
Francis Edna Huffman, the fivemonths-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J. S. Huffman, of Lower Fork, died at
their home on Sunday afternoon and I
was laid to rest in St. Andrew's churchyard
on Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
R. F. D. Examination.
Postmaster Leaphart ha9 been authorized
to hold an examination here
on next Saturday for R. F. D. Carriers
on all the routes in the county.
There will be about 42 applicants, it is
said, and the examination will be held
in the Palmetto Collegiate Institute.
