Rev. T. S. Brown, pastor of Mount
Zion English Lutheran Church, Franklin
road, Ncrthside, has tendered his
resignation to accept a unanimous call
to Lexington, S. 0., a short distance
from Columbia.
Rev. Mr. Brown has been pastor of
Mount Zion Church about fourteen
years. When he became pastor the j
congregation was mission of the i
Pittsburg Synod of tl?e General Council l
with a membership of about fifty i
communicants.
The mission became self-sustaininc 1

about six years ago.
Through Rev. Mr. Brown's efforts j
the church and parsonage were both j
greatly improved. About SI,000 for i
these improvents was secured by the
paster from members and from members
and friends of the First English
Lutheran Church, Grant street.
There is now an enrollment of about
one hundred and eighty-five communicants.
Rev. Mr. Brown i9 a Southerner,
and was fonraerly connected with the
United Synod of the South, of which
he will again become a member. He,
with his family, will leave for his new

a telephone message this morning
informing him of a double killing
near Buckhead in the northwestern
portion of the county at a gambling
den last r.ight. A negro, George Carr,
shot afrid killed two other negroes, Bill
Sawyer and Nick Williams. Three
others were wounded.

Tampa, Fla., Feb.?The 16 year-old
girl of George Newell, a farmer living
near Lakeland, 30 miles north of Tampa,
was seized by a negro this morning
while on her way to 9chool at
Lakeland. She fought her assailant

accomplishing his purpose, the timely
arrival of persons, attracted by her
screams, causing the negro to flee to
the wood9. Fully 1,500 people joined in
a search for the negro, bent upon
lynching him, but up to a fcate hour
this afternoon no trace of him had
been found.
