Father Wounded By
His Step-son.
Greenville, Dec. 31..?J. Fred Hicks,
i well known citizen of this city, was
shot tonight by his stepson, Jouette
Hicks, and probably seriously wounded.
Jouette Hicks is bookkeeper for
3. D. Stradley Co., a large dry good
irm of the city. The family prominent.
The shooting appears to have been
:he result of a family disturbance in
which Mr. Hicks, Sr., was about to
make an attack on his wife when
young Kicks interfered in his mother's
behalf. Four shots were exchanged,
three taking effect in Hicks, Sr., and
one in Hicks, Jr. It is said the elder
Hicks is iii a critical condition.

Homioide In Oconee.
Westminster, January 3.?Special:
Mann Phillips, son of Mr. J. E. Phillips,
was found dead about three miles
from Westminster on Sunday afternoon
on Major Stribling's place. He
had been dead for two days, perhaps.
It is reported here that he was cut to
death by Col Vandiver, the difficulty
occurring Thursday night. Both parties
live in Westminster, and are well
connected. Sheriff Kay arrested Vandiver
to-night, eight miles south of
this place, at the home of Mr. John
Zachary, and landed him in jail at
Walhalla.
Son Shoots Father.
Greenville, December 30.?Thomas
Springfield, a merchant near the Monaghan
mill village, in the suburbs of
the city, was shot this afternoon by
his son, and his condition is considered
critical. The shooting occurred at
Springfield's home, and it was impossible
to ascertain the cause tonight.
Springfield was shot in the stomach.
It is reported that Springfield was
Irunk and that he had some words
with his son, which led up to the
shooting.
