Many of our people v;ho have been
away to other places on account of
the short time of the Columbia Duck
Mill, are coming uaca since ueucr
time is being made. We are proud of
both our mills and the splendid set of

in their work.
Our merchants all report better
times in their business and soon we
hope all the old sores of hard times
will be healed and everything moving
at a healthy rate.
We are glad to report very little
sickness in our town, though we seldom
are troubled along this line.

Big Raise Off.
It appears that there was a "commission,
* or rake off, of $80,000 in the
I transaction by which stock of the
Southern Life Insurance company, of
Fayetteville, N. C., was sold to the
Seminole Securities company, of Columbia.
Who got the money is not
yet apparent. A story from Columbia
yesterday stated that the sale was
apparently simple. It is also said that
the trustees, Gen. Wille Jones, W. A.
Clark and T. S. Bryan, will see that
an accounting is made. The Seminole
Securities company has moved
its offices from Columbia to Chattanooga,
Tenn.

Buzzard Stopped Hills. .
A turkey buzzard stopped numerous
cotton mill 8 in North Carolina and
this State last Friday for an hour or
two. He lit on one of the metal towers
of the Southern Power company's
lines and spread his wings out so that
they touched the two main power
lines, thus forming a short circuit.
Forty-four thousand volts passed
through his body, burning him to a
crisp and burning the wires in two,
allowing the bird to drop to the ground.
It was two hours before the trouble
was located.

do not hesitate to endorse them. My
back pained me for a long time, particularly
at night and many times I
have been unable to sleep on account
of the misery. The pain seated itself
right across the small of my back
and through my loins and made it impossible
for me to assume any position
that was comfortable. The kidney
secretions contained much sediment
and were do frequent in action
that I would have to rise several times
at night. The various remedies I
used proved of no avail and I had
about given up hope of ever being
cured when I heara of Doan's Kidney
Pills. I got a box and decided to try
them, although I thought they would
prove just as worthless as everything
else I had previously taken. I was
agreeably surprised, however, as they
went directly to the cause of my
trouble and brought about a cure. I
have had no annoyance from my kidneys
since and believe that the full
credit is due to Doan's Kidney Pills."
